The new peaks of 2012. These are the only five I did that I hadn’t done before. The first three, Antero, Shavano, and Tabeguache, were all done on my trip to Colorado in September. The second two are the two ranked peaks of Mt. Kathadin in Maine. The taller, Baxter, is the state high point, and also the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. As a lifelong Mainer, I’ve always wanted to do that peak, so I was glad I finally got the chance.
Here’s a view from the summit of Mt. Shavano in Colorado. Maybe this was better than seeing a gif of a cat high-fiving a dude— it’s close.
I finally got the pics from my buddy of our trip to Colorado last September. This is me making it to the top of Mt. Antero, 14,269 ft.
Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out going to the mountains is going home; that wilderness is a necessity.
